Control for Blaine Lake Saskatchewan Grain Drying Facility

The East Country Electric control panel for the grain drying system at Blaine Saskatchewan directs the operation of 12 grain bins, 2 grain legs, a grain dryer, and 4 drag conveyors. The six motors utilized in the facility all have VFD controls so the system can be speeded or slowed down depending upon the situation at the time. The facility can be used to store grain as well as dry and store grain.
The control panel is set up so that the grain drying system can move grain from the receiving drag conveyor to the wet grain leg, through any of the six wet grain bins to either the grain dryer or, bypassing the grain dryer, directly to dry grain storage.
The sequence operates like this. When the incoming grain truck is driven over the receiving grate, the control panel selects the equipment that will be used to move the grain to its final destination. If the grain truck is carrying dry grain, the control panel operator will turn on the receiving drag conveyor, the wet grain leg and direct the grain into one of the dry grain bins. Each grain bin is equipped with high limit sensor to prevent the leg from plugging so when the bin is full, the spouting rotates to the next bin, or shuts down.
Since the grain does not require drying, the control panel can open the electric gate at the bottom of the bin and allow the dry grain to fall into a drag conveyor that will transport it directly to the dry grain leg. The operator selects the appropriate dry grain bin from the control panel and activates the dry grain leg and the header spouted to that particular grain bin. And the grain is stored.(utilizing the wet bins as extra dry grain storage)
If the grain truck carries grain that requires drying the sequence is different. The control panel moves the grain in the same manner until it reaches the wet grain bin and falls through the electric gate into the drag conveyor. This time, however, instead of being directed into the dry grain leg, the grain is directed into the grain dryer. When the dryer is full the control panel activates the burners and the grain dryer dries the grain as it moves through.
When the grain is dry it is directed into the dry leg to be shuttled to the dry bins for storage.
Out loading into B Trains is accomplished through the dry grain leg and two overhead surge bins. The drag conveyors under the dry bins are all reversible. The control panel opens the electric gate at the bottom of the selected bins and the drag conveyor carries the grain to the dry grain leg. The dry grain leg is spouted to two overhead surge bins situated above the loading area. Since the grain trucks are frequently B Trains, the two surge bins are positioned in such a way as to facilitate loading both of trailers at the same time.
The control panel also allows the moisture content in the grain to be brought down to acceptable levels without the use of the grain dryer. If the moisture content is only marginally high, the overall moisture level can be brought down by blending the high moisture grain with grain with a lower moisture content. Since the grain rolls and mixes as it moves, opening the electronic gates on several bins at a time can mix dryer grain with wetter grain and result in an overall acceptable moisture content level for all of the grain.
